Curating KPower Source Rides

The KPower algorithm uses your existing rides that contain both power and heartrate data as source rides for making power predictions about your "no power" (KPower rides). Each KPower ride utilizes 3 such source rides. You can discover which rides were used as KPower source rides
for a given KPower ride by clicking on the KPower icon (Looks like a King Of Hearts playing card)on the KPower ride's page:

It may be that you feel a KPower prediction for one of your rides is off somewhat. You may be able to fix the issue by visiting the Source Rides that were used, and potentially disallowing the use of the ride as a source ride. You would then delete the ride you're unhappy with and upload it again, the ride you've previously disallowed won't be used again.

So why would you want to do this? One potential reason is that your HRM was malfunctioning for the ride. Take a look at this Stats tab clipped from a KOM Informatics ride page, showing details of a hour long hilly road race:

The rider was close to redline the entire race, but the average HR only shows as 101 BPM. This is definitely not right! This discovery led to a series of rides being disallowed as a KPower source up until the point where the HRM was replaced.

A couple of other types of rides can be problematic KPower source rides. Warmup rides before races can have high heartrates relative to watts because of pre-race jitters. Cooldown rides directly after races have a similar problem - Riders pedaling easy watts with a heartrate still elevated from the race. Consider disallowing both of these types of rides as KPower sources.

So how do you disallow a ride from being a KPower source?

1. Click on the KPower icon (looks like King of Hearts playing card) right next to the Weighted Average Power number on the KPower ride page. the KPower source rides dialog box will display)

2. Click on one of the Source Ride links from the KPower source rides dialog box. The KPower source ride will display.

3. From the KPower source ride page click on the Edit Ride tab. Change the KPower Source select control to "No". (This is the last control
to the right on the first row of controls.)

4. Click the [Save] button on the KPower source ride page to save your changes.
