Cycling Equipment Requirements
In order to use KOM Informatics you will need the following.
Setup 1:
- A bicycle equipped with a power meter that "broadcasts" over ANT+ or bluetooth, capable of being received by the head unit.
- A head unit capable of recording GPS and power meter data that emits a .fit file . The head unit could be a dedicated device such as a Garmin 510 or a mobile phone running an app such as Cyclemeter.
- Head unit must record the ride at 1 second intervals.
Or
Setup 2;
- 1. A bicycle without a power meter
- 2. A smart trainer equipped with a power meter
- 3. A head unit capable of recording GPS and power meter data that emits a .fit file . The head unit could be a dedicated device such as a Garmin 510 or a mobile phone running an app such as Cyclemeter, or a service such as Zwift or Rouvy.
- A heartrate monitor that "broadcasts" over ANT+ or bluetooth, capable of being received by the head unit.
Under Setup 2 a cyclist would need to record 20 indoor rides containing both power and heartrate data to provide a baseline for KPower, KOM Informatics' heartrate based estimated power algorithm. After that, outdoor rides with just heartrate data can be uploaded to the system. KPower will provide second-by second power estimates. KPower estimates were 92.57% accurate in a study involving 2 cyclists and 80 rides.
Or
Setup 3:
- 1. A bicycle without a power meter
- 2. A "classic" trainer equipped with a published power curve, capable of being selected in a service such as Zwift or Rouvy
- 3. A service such as Zwift or Rouvy that acts as a head unit capable of recording GPS and power meter data and that emits a .fit file .
- A heartrate monitor that "broadcasts" over ANT+ or bluetooth, capable of being received by the head unit.
Under Setup 3 a cyclist would need to record 20 indoor rides containing both power and heartrate data to provide a baseline for KPower, KOM Informatics' heartrate based estimated power algorithm. After that, outdoor rides with just heartrate data can be uploaded to the system. KPower will provide second-by second power estimates. KPower estimates were 92.57% accurate in a study involving 2 cyclists and 80 rides.
